I Need advise from Arty people!

Hello!

I'm thinking about doing sculpture again. I haven't done it since college and so I have no idea what clay/material to use!

I want to be able to sculpt something and be able to paint it and display.

I don't know anything about firing clay or how to preserve it from cracking or peeling or whatever. Is there a sculpting material that you can work on and go back to without too much trouble? Is there something that "self preserves" so that once it's made, it can be painted and displayed or will it have to be fired first and then painted/glazed?

As you can tell, I know nothing! But I'm really serious in having a go and creating my own sculptures to put on display

Thank you!

I don't know the answer to this. But I totally read the hell out of it.
Sorry I don't know. Sculpy is fun for little stuff.

hey Shadow. sculpy is also used for stop motion animation. we used it on celebrity death match. you can get sculpting clay that can be hardened, but here is a link to a site you can order air drying and self hardening clays and mediums from.

http://www.shopartplace.com/clay-sculpey-apoxie.aspx

you can also work in wax, and cast is in plaster (my favorite) it's easy and you can make multiples. after the plaster sets you heat it untill the wax runs out and you're off.

hope this helps.

Fun with Platypi

It's funny because I've been wanting to try sculpting again recently as well. I think Billy said it all. I've used Sculpey- not as much as Billy has it seems...but it is pretty cool stuff- versatile.
