Exclamation Big Halloween Contest- Original Wrightson Art!

Okay, I want to make this a contest everybody has a chance to win.

SO

All you need to do is post your name and why you should be the winner of a page of ORIGINAL BERNIE WRIGHTSON ART from DEAD, SHE SAID!

Yes that's right, this years BIG prize is HUGE.

If you know Bernie's work I'd love to hear your favorites, or just a cool Wrightson related memory. Or simply state your case why you should be the owner of the page...and keep it clean.

The contest ends at MIDNIGHT on HALLOWEEN NIGHT!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN AND GOOD LUCK!

-Steve

i would like to win this because it'd be nice to have an original piece in my living room instead of prints!

Love Bernie's work and it would go great in my original art collection.

I, too, am a big Wrightson fan. As a student, though, it's almost impossible to afford anything, let alone art from someone so talented.

I remember being enthralled by the Wrightson art in the King book "Silver Bullet". I also don't really own any original art and Wrightson piece would be huge.

Bernie's work was in some of the initial horror comics I ran across in the seventies....some of the stuff that scared the crap out of me, but still drew me to it.....to me his work always looked more mature than the EC comics reprints I had....and then with Creepshow and Cycle of the Warewolf....I can't tell you how many times I read Creepshow (this was before we had a VCR, so I needed my horror fix somewhere) I recently ran across my chilhood copy...can you say "tore up from the floor up"? So, some Wrightson art would spuce up my comic room just right....

I met Bernie at the 1994 Great Eastern Convention at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC- Man- i must have been 14 or 15 and my parents drove me there for the day from Massachussetts. I brought my copy of Cycle of the Werewolf to get signed by Bernie and he was soooo cooool. He was very encouraging to me regarding my skecthbook! I remember, as my parents and I stood there talking with Bernie, a band by the name of GWAR walked by in all their getup. Bernie made a comment about how they couldn't fit in the aisle very well. I think they had a booth there that year. So I bought some of Bernie's Monsters sketch books and a pack of cards devoted to his artwork. He signed them all! I also got a poster he did from 1976 called LoggerHead. I have that image hanging in my studio space above my light table all framed up. Wrightson's art has been an inspiration in my artwork since I was like 12 or so.
Just a couple months ago a friend of mine gave me some comics he's had for years. One was his version of Creepshow and a collection of stories called "The Reaper of Love". He also gave me CREEPY #6!! To see Bernie working with you, Steve Niles,(needless to say) I am so glad that he has returned to comics!

I can't give a good reason like everyone else here. Still being fairly new to comics, the first work I'd seen by Bernie Wrightson (as far as I know anyway) was on City of Others. It just blew me away! I met him at the BCC this year and I was overwhelmed by how nice he was, especially when I handed him my copy of Dead She Said number 1 and admitted I didn't know much of his work.
Anyway, I'd like to have this as my first piece of original artwork because I am going to start hunting down more of his work and I'd love to have something this incredible hanging in my home.

I've never bought or owned a piece of original art, comic, or other-wise. I've never really had the scratch for it. In fact, one of my fondest memories is from maybe seven years ago, sorting through the quarter bin at the comic shop, as I was oft to do, and finding a beat-up, old copy of Swamp Thing #10. I wasn't really familiar with the character at the time, but I remember thinking to myself, 'That is an AWESOME design. And it's only a quarter.'

I credit that ONE book with steering me away from nothing but superhero books, and opening up the world of horror and sci-fi to me.

I collect comic books, not out of a future value they might accrue, but because I want to create a giant library that I can eventually leave to my kids. And I'd love to center it around some original artwork.

Bernie's art has been a big influence on my own work and to own a piece of his original art would for me be like owning an original Dali or Da vinci!!!

I can still remeber the day that I bought Creepshow at a second hand book shop in some small obscure town, the middle aged guy behind the counter kept starring at me and muttering about the fall of youth and how he'd like to teach them a lesson.
I bought Creepshow and got out of there as fast as I could!

I later heard that that guy used to grop his female customers also...

The reason why i would like to win the original art is because in my collection i have a alot of different things (toys, comics, trading cards, stickers, records, etc) yet i actually don't own any original art. i can only imagine having conversations that start out "yeah, that's my collection of happy meal toys on the left and next to it is a peice of original art from the comic Dead, She Said! drawn by Bernie Wrightson and written by Steve "No Cheese" Niles

Bernie is 'THE' reason I became a horror illustrator. He's basically taught me everything I know. From composition to tweeking a hand the right way in order to get that "wrightson" look. There will only ever be one Bernie Wrightson, and to own an original piece of art from the "Master of Macabre" himself would be like a hockey fan owning Gretzky's rookie card. I know you wanted it short and sweet Steve, so I'll stop before I get ahead of myself. The fact that you're offering this is unreal and appreciate even the chance to own a Wrightson.

Oh yah.........my username 'freakshow' is from my favorite book he did with Bruce Jones

Adam Boggs.

I would put it in a "Mona lisa" protective frame and install security in my room to keep all Human beings from touching it..i'd look at it every night before going to bed...appreciating it's presence.

Sweet Dreams..

ahhh.

That was creepy, but you get what i'm trying to say.

Thanks Steve!
